What is Yoga

Yoga promotes a life of self-discipline based on the principle of “Simple living and high thinking”.

Yoga is a complete science of life and meant to unite. Yoga originated from India many thousands of years ago. It is the oldest system of personal development in the world, based on the health of the physical body, the Mind and the Soul (spirit).

The ancient yogis had a profound understanding of man’s essential nature of how he needs to live in harmony with himself and his environment. Many different interpretations and styles have been developed and most agree that the ultimate goal of yoga is to achieve liberation from suffering.

“An idle Mind is the Devil’s workshop”

Yoga in your life: Many people are first drawn to yoga as a way to keep their bodies fit and supple. Others are seeking help or relief for a specific complaint, like tension backache. Some are merely impelled by a sense that they are not getting as much out of life as they could be. Whatever the reason, yoga can be a tool for everyone.

To understand what yoga is about you need to experience it for yourself. In time, anyone who continues with regular practice becomes aware of the subtle change in their approach to life, through persistent toning and relaxing the body, breathing exercises and stilling the mind, you begin to glimpse a state of inner peace which is your true nature. If you bring your mind and thoughts under control, there is literally no limit to what you can do - since it is only our own illusions and preconceptions that hold us back and prevent us from fulfilling ourselves.

Mind Yourself uses Yoga Therapy, which is different than a Yoga class. Yoga therapy is a type of therapy that uses yoga postures, breathing exercises, meditation, and guided imagery to improve mental and physical health.(based on the 8 Limbs of Yoga – Patanjali Yoga Sutra). Yoga has become an evidence based practice for a lot of physical and mental conditions.
